Standard Brickplayer - Kits 3, 4 and the Farm Kit

Kits 3 and 4

Following the success of the Early Brickplayer Kits 1 and 2, Spears produced a more ambitious offering in the form of Kits 3 and 4, with improved windows, doors and roofing, plus 12 new "architect designed" models in a consistent 1:48 ('O' gauge) scale.

Because these sold in large numbers, and therefore (complete or partial) kits can still be quite readily obtained through online sources today, I refer to this era as Standard Brickplayer.

Instructions and blueprints

An instruction booklet provided quite detailed instructions to build the 12 models. The smaller Kit 3 had enough components for models 1 to 6, while to build models 7 to 12 Kit 4 was needed. Owners of Kit 3 could upgrade with Kit 3A that contained all the components from the larger kit that were not in Kit 3. Interesting comparison of four successive versions of the instruction booklet can be found on Timothy Edwards' Brickplayer page

Kits always contained blueprints showing how to lay the first course of bricks. The blueprints for Standard Brickplayer models 1 to 12 are here

I have a complete Kit 3. To see the full size version of each of the following pictures, click on the text below it.

I also have a complete Kit 4, but unlike the Kit 3 shown above it was not unused. The components have been fitted into the box to represent how the original package would have looked. To see the full size version of each of the following pictures, click on the text below it.

Farm Kit

A few years later, Spears produced the even more ambitious Farm Kit, using all the regular Standard Brickplayer components but with a few additions and changes - see the Brickplayer components page.

Instructions and blueprints

Designs for 7 new models (numbered 13 to 19) were provided that together would create a model farm. The instruction booklet even included a plan for the completed farm. The blueprints for the Farm models are here.

Pictures of the Farm Kit

I have a Farm Kit box, but with almost none of the original contents. To see the full size version of each of the following pictures, click on the text below it. The photo of the contents is from Dave Meesam.
